West Ham's highest-paid director has received a significant pay rise after last season's accounts have been released, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on 1 January the East Londoners smashed their club-record revenue in 2023-24 after their turnover increased from £236.7million in 2022-23 to £269.8million.
That was driven by their improved position in the Premier League, having finished ninth in David Moyes's last season at the London Stadium, as well as higher European income and a substantial rise in broadcast revenue.
West Ham's accounts for 2023-24, which were released on Monday (30 December), showed their wage bill surged from £136.9million to £161million following some big-name signings across the campaign.
Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez, Konstantinos Mavropanos, James Ward-Prowse and Andy Irving joined on permanent deals for a combined £124million, while Kalvin Phillips spent the second half of the season on loan at the London Stadium.
The accounts showed the club's highest-paid director saw their annual salary increase by £80,000 from £1.36million to £1.44million in 2023-24.
Co-owners David Sullivan, Daniel Kretinsky, Vanessa Gold and Albert "Tripp" Smith were named among the directors alongside vice-chairman Karren Brady, Andy Mollett, Daniel Harris, Daniel Cunningham, Jack Sullivan, David Sullivan Jr and Jiri Svarc.
Sources have told Football Insider Brady is likely to have received the pay rise after she has historically been the club's highest-paid director.
Karren Brady has taken West Ham pay cut in recent years
Despite the latest salary increase, Brady appears to have taken a hefty wage cut in recent years after the Daily Mail reported in May 2023 she earned £2.2million in 2021-22.
Finance expert Kieran Maguire reported on 31 December the 55-year-old is now the eighth-highest-paid director in the Premier League, with one Tottenham chief raking in £6.6million a year.
Although West Ham's wage bill increased by around £24million last season, their accounts were largely positive.
The London side’s broadcast revenue soared to £167million, while their matchday revenue reached £44.6million and their commercial revenue improved to £41.9million.
West Ham also managed to go from making a £17.1million loss in 2022-23 to last season recording a £57.2million net profit, which was largely driven by the £105million sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal.
But performances on the pitch have gone backwards this season after Julen Lopetegui was appointed as Moyes's successor.
The Spaniard has lost eight of his opening 19 Premier League games, leaving his side sitting 13th in the table.
Football Insider revealed on 31 December the 58-year-old is under growing sack pressure following the 5-0 defeat against Liverpool on 29 December.
In other news, West Ham will accept "huge Arsenal offer for Mohammed Kudus".
