Tottenham Hotspur secured their first win in their 2024/25 Europa League campaign on Thursday night.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side came out of their game against Qarabag as 3-0 victors, however, it was not a result which reflected the story of the game.

Despite the Azerbaijani side arriving late to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and forcing kick off to be delayed by 35 minutes, they gave Tottenham a really good go of it.

The north London side were quickly reduced to 10 men after Radu Dragusin was shown a straight red card to make their task much more difficult.

However, Tottenham were able to get the job done but were certainly handed a helping hand along the way with Qarabag missing numerous chances including a penalty.

Dominic Solanke and Richarlison impressed by £17m Tottenham player

Goals from Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke and Pape Matar Sarr sealed the points for Tottenham in what was a strange night in north London.

Heung-min Son was withdrawn in the latter stages of the game with an injury concern which will be something to keep an eye on.

But there were some positive performances out there is what proved a testing evening for the Lilywhites.

In what has become a bit of a rarity for Tottenham over the last year, Guglielmo Vicario was able to keep a clean sheet.

Again, the Italian was certainly provided a helping hand in doing so due to Qarabag’s dreadful finishing in front of goal.

But the £17m Tottenham goalkeeper did provide Tottenham with a number of smart stops to keep the side from Azerbaijan out.

And his efforts did not go unnoticed by Solanke, Richarlison and Micky van de Ven on Instagram after the game.

Following the Italian’s social media post after the game, Richarlison replied with the fire emoji whilst Solanke added the no entry emoji with a number of exclamation marks.

Alongside them, Van de Ven simply replied: ‘Bravo Lungo’.

Guglielmo Vicario’s Europa League performance in numbers

The victory on Thursday night has put Spurs up in fourth in the new format table of the European competition.

And they can thank their goalkeeper for his part played in the victory with Tottenham allowing 14 shots in total.

Here is a roundup of how Vicario performed between the sticks…

It has not been easy for the Italian of late in a Spurs shirt with Vicario receiving some criticism from some in the media.

However, Thursday night was a solid showing which should go a long way towards boosting his confidence ahead of the trip to Old Trafford this weekend.
