'Right now': Chelsea are more likely to sign £20m striker than Victor Osimhen – journalist

Chelsea have been in the market for a new striker for a little while now.
Nicolas Jackson has improved this season, but there's still a nagging feeling that Chelsea need a more clinical centre-forward.
Victor Osimhen was linked with Chelsea for a long time, while Ivan Toney was a Chelsea target in the summer too.
As Chelsea fans know, a lot can change in football in six months, and now, the striker landscape looks rather different.
Chelsea are now looking at a few different options, and Liam Delap is now a Chelsea target.
Speaking on The Byline, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Chelsea's interest in Delap, and he says that the £20m man is more likely to sign for Chelsea this month than Victor Osimhen.

Jacobs shared what he knows about Chelsea and their interest in Delap.
The reporter says that Chelsea like the way Delap drops deep and works hard, but they feel he can be a more advanced player if he joins the club.
Interestingly, Jacobs says that Chelsea are more inclined to go for Delap than Osimhen at this point.
"The thing about Delap that Chelsea feel is that if you take away the finishing he's having to drop deep and do a lot of work off the ball.
"It's shaping his profile in a way where he drops deeper, interlinks it, that builds his game. A lot of people look at Delap like that as it's adding to his development and keeping him humble.
"The feeling is that if he moves to a team like Chelsea he can be a really defined number nine playing in a more advanced position.
"Right now, they seem more intent to bring a player like Delap in, young, Premier League experience, rather than going in for Victor Osimhen at £65m and £250k-a-week."
Liam Delap compared to Victor Osimhen
Chelsea are more inclined to go for Delap than Osimhen, and that is interesting.
Delap is having a very good season for Ipswich, and Tottenham are also interested in Delap.
The stats this season suggest that Delap is just as good an option as Osimhen, considering he's playing at a higher level.

Games | 19 | 12 |
Goals | 8 | 10 |
Assists | 2 | 3 |
That said, this is Delap's first season performing at this sort of level.
Indeed, if you compare Osimhen and Delap's stats from last season, it is a different story.

So, Chelsea need to decide, do they want to go for the young striker who has half a good season under his belt, or the proven commodity who has shown his ability in the Champions League on numerous occasions?
There's no saying that Delap will be a one-season wonder. After all, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy were called one-season wonders at one point before becoming bona fide legends, but for every Kane and Vardy there's a Michu and a Papiss Cisse.
Chelsea need to tread carefully here if they're going for Delap.
