Rio Ferdinand issues two-word instant response as Man United drop to 14th
Yesterday at 03:30 AM
Rio Ferdinand has issued a seemingly damning verdict on Man United following their 2-0 defeat away at Wolves – as they slipped to the remarkably lowly position of 14th in the Premier League.
While there have been signs of improvement since Ruben Amorim arrived as manager back in November, results are yet to get better, in the wake of that defeat at Molineux on Boxing Day.
Following a goalless first-half, captain Bruno Fernandez was sent off just after the break for a second yellow card.
Matheus Cunha then put the hosts ahead straight from a corner just before the hour-mark, despite complaints from Man United goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Substitute Hwang Hee-chan then sealed the win on the counter-attack in stoppage time, meaning it is now five defeats in the last seven games for Amorim’s side, which it seems Ferdinand can barely believe.
Taking to social media as Cunha set Wolves on their way to victory at Molineux, the former centre-back, who won six Premier Leagues and a Champions League in 12 years with the Red Devils, simply wrote: “No comment”.
Man United situation hard to sum up for many as Rio Ferdinand proves
Football Insider Opinion
It is a quite remarkable situation that the Old Trafford club find themselves in right now, and not in a good away for those connected with the club.
This run of results mean that Man United now sit 14th in the Premier League table, and they are closer to the bottom three than they are to the top four.
Given how dominant a force they were in English football for such a long time, many during that period surely would never have imagined it coming to this.
It is not only on the pitch but off it too where things do not seem as though all is well, with many decisions by INEOS not going down well with staff behind-the scenes.
With that in mind, it may not be easy for those connected with Man United to put into words what is going on at the club right now, as Ferdinand has shown with such a brief and simple comment here.
Worryingly for all concerned, the extent of those issues means it is hard to see everything being fixed quickly, meaning such disappointment feels likely to linger for some time yet.
In other news, Man United have apparently identified one position they will target in the January transfer window.
