Manchester United have sacked Erik ten Hag as manager and Paul Scholes has now given his opinion after hearing who the potential replacement could be.

Ten Hag finally got his marching orders after defeat at West Ham left United 14th in the table and the club are now on the lookout for yet another new manager.

Quite who will be the next United boss, remains to be found out.

TBR Football understands that Thomas Frank and Julian Nagelsmann are on the list, while reports have also claimed United have held talks with former Barcelona boss Xavi.

Xavi, of course, got his marching orders from Barca despite having success and winning a league title.

However, according to Paul Scholes, his appointment would still bring an element of risk with it, albeit Scholes recognised his success.

Paul Scholes gives verdict on Xavi as next Manchester United manager

Speaking for TNT Sports, Scholes has suggested that missing out on Thomas Tuchel was a big blow for the club, while the potential appointment of Xavi will come with an element of risk.

"I felt United had missed out on him," Scholes said of Tuchel.

"I think it was documented that they had conversations with him, as and when I'm not too sure.

“Xavi is more recent. Manchester United are the biggest club in the world, so they need the best of the best. If they think Xavi is that man, then it's a risky one.

"But he's managed at an elite level with a club very similar to Manchester United in Spain with Barcelona. They won the league against Carlo Ancelotti's [Real Madrid] team in difficult circumstances, so I wouldn't be against that.”

Xavi the best of a limited bunch

Scholes makes a valid point about Thomas Tuchel here and at the end of the day, there aren’t a huge pool of managers to choose from.

The former United man goes on to mention the likes of Ruben Amorim and Zinedine Zidane, but even those two appointments come with elements of risk.

For INEOS, it’s imperative they get the right man with their pick. If they get it wrong, then it could have dire consequences and set the club back further.

Xavi, as it is, is probably as good as there is available right now and having managed Barcelona, he certainly knows how to handle pressure and comes with stature following his playing days.
