Ruben Amorim has left a number of Man United fans predicting defeat in their FA Cup clash with Arsenal after confirming a key piece of team news for that game.
The Red Devils are due to begin the defence of their title in the third round of the competition on Sunday (12 January) when they travel to the Emirates to face the Gunners.
Given they are 13th in the Premier League and out of the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup likely represents the best chance for the club to lift domestic silverware again this season.
Many Man United supporters though are not confident they will progress past their first match in the competition after Amorim’s latest team news reveal.

Speaking ahead of the game, Amorim confirmed that Altay Bayindir will start in goal for his side in north London (BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone).
The Turkey international has made just four appearances for Man United since joining from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023 when Erik ten Hag was in charge, all of which have been in cup competitions.
His last outing for Amorim’s side came in the Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham last month, in which he made several errors.
As a result, although first-choice ‘keeper Andre Onana has himself made some mistakes this season, many Man United fans were not happy as they took to social media to react to this update.
While some predicted a heavy win in Arsenal’s favour, others questioned why Amorim planned to use a “calamitous” goalkeeper against a team so strong when attacking with set-pieces.
One fan already believes “we’re finished”, with another convinced the game has been sacrificed ahead of time with United “definitely not winning”, and another claimed it would end in a “6-0” Arsenal victory.
