Ryan Gravenberch sends message to Liverpool fans after crushing blow

Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravernberch has taken to social media to reassure the fans that they’re “still in this fight” after their 1-0 League Cup defeat to Tottenham on Wednesday (January 8).
The 22-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Arne Slot’s side fell to a controversial 1-0 defeat in their League Cup semi-final first leg against Tottenham, which ended the visitors’ 24-match unbeaten run.
Lucas Bergvall scored the winner in the 86th minute, mere moments after a rash challenge on Liverpool defender Konstantinos Tsimikas that could have seen him receive a second yellow card.
The Premier League leaders were given an advantage by referee Stuart Atwell but their attack ultimately came to nothing, allowing Spurs ‘keeper Antonin Kinsky to initiate a fresh attack.
Dominic Solanke beat Ibrahima Konate to the ball before laying off Bergvall to slot past Alisson in the visitor’s goal.
Liverpool’s bench were furious with the decision to allow the goal to stand, with one of Slot’s coaching staff receiving a yellow card.
Speaking about the controversy in his press conference after the game, Slot said: "What we can say about it is that he said he (Bergvall) didn't stop the counter-attack. Every manager would prefer a second yellow to a counter-attack that goes on without one player and that still needs to go 80 yards, maybe.
"The second thing is that if you stop a counter-attack with a reckless challenge then he could still give a yellow, but he didn't see it as a reckless challenge – and that's the second thing we can debate about. It is what it is. The positive thing for us – we hate to lose, I hate to lose – but if you have to lose, it's better to lose when there is still a second leg."

The central midfielder has established himself as a key player since Slot took over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer, starting 22 of his 26 games across all competitions, scoring zero goals, and providing two assists in his 2281 minutes of action.
Clearly determined to make up for the defeat in the second leg at Anfield, Gravernberch took to Instagram to say: “Still in this fight, second leg at Anfield soon.”
Liverpool have six games remaining in January alone, including crucial Champions League ties with Lille and PSV as they seek to retain their 100 per cent record in the new league phase.
Slot’s immediate attention will be on domestic affairs, however, hosting League Two side Accrington Stanley in their first FA Cup game of the season on Saturday (January 11).
