Ryan Gravenberch transfer: 'Strong update on shock Liverpool exit'
Ryan Gravenberch is a “key performer” at Liverpool and the Dutchman is not considering leaving, according to Florian Plettenberg.
Plettenberg, a Sky Germany reporter, provided an update on the Merseyside club's stance regarding a shock departure for the midfielder on X on 18 December.
He stated that there are "no plans regarding a transfer" either in January or next summer and that "Liverpool have no intention" of pursuing a swap deal with Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni.
Gravenberch is seen as a “leading player” for the table-topping Reds.
Liverpool must keep their top players to back Arne Slot
Gravenberch has become a vital part of Arne Slot's new era at Liverpool.
Football Insider previously revealed that the former Feyenoord coach told the midfielder, "You are my main man" for the number six role.
This comes despite the Reds continually being linked with defensive midfielders, from Moises Caicedo to Martin Zubimendi. The latter is now open to a move after rejecting the club in the summer, but it remains unclear whether they will pursue a deal.
The former Bayern Munich man has played a pivotal role this season, featuring in all 21 games, contributing one assist, and accumulating 1,867 minutes on the pitch [Transfermarkt].
Keeping players of Gravenberch's calibre is crucial, especially with the club leading the Premier League with 36 points, having lost just one game. They also sit at the top of the Champions League table and have reached the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have had an initial contract offer for fellow Dutchman Virgil van Dijk rejected, while speculation continues around Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
If the hierarchy want Slot's new reign to flourish, they must retain their top players and avoid wholesale changes for now.
In other news, Liverpool are plotting to sign a Chelsea defender to potentially replace Alexander-Arnold.
