Mohamed Salah was relatively quiet in Liverpool’s latest 2-0 victory against Brentford.

With Mohamed Salah having the tremendous season he is, it comes more of a surprise when he has an off day than when he gets a goal or an assist in any game he plays nowadays.

It is a positive for Liverpool that they do not have to solely rely on the Egyptian international to win crucial fixtures such as Saturday’s contest.

But in the New Year, Salah has not been as decisive as he was at the backend of last year.

Salah has impressed Arne Slot from day one and the Dutch manager will have no qualms about his superstar forward having a few quiet games.

Salah is keen to win the Premier League this season and the former Roma wideman will be his harshest critic if he fails to have a disappointing second half of the campaign; considering Slot perhaps needs the Champions League winner to deliver more than any of his players when crunch time arrives.

What Mohamed Salah did after Brentford vs Liverpool

The 32-year-old’s contract at Anfield expires in the summer and as a result, if his sights are set on leaving the Premier League at the end of the season, the revered forward would love to do so in style.

TBR Football revealed the Saudi Pro League are targeting Salah — proposing to make him the highest-earning player in the world alongside Al-Nassr megastar Cristiano Ronaldo.

Troy Deeney claimed on talkSPORT that after Salah headed straight down the tunnel after Liverpool’s win against Brentford, it seemed like an exit away from the Merseyside-based club could be on his mind.

“Something’s up with that fella today. Whether it’s something with Saudi, whether there’s a move but he’s not been at the races today.”

“Him going down the tunnel first, even though 95 per cent of the team is over there celebrating says a lot to me.”

Deeney has claimed Salah is not “world-class” and once again, he has speculated about the Liverpool legend’s future.

Salah has performed despite his contract situation which suggests that all the transfer talk surrounding him has not bothered him whatsoever.

Regardless of the reason why the Reds icon decided to head straight down the tunnel against Brentford, where many would agree with Troy Deeney is that he did not look at his brilliant best during the game.

Before Darwin Nunez turned the game on its with his well-timed brace, Salah even had the chance to score the winner from outside the box but his effort went just wide.

So far this season, the Premier League winner has contributed to 60 per cent of Liverpool’s league goals (50) this campaign, with 30 goal involvements (18 goals and 12 assists) to his name.

However, against Brentford, even the statistics indicated that Salah had a game to forget.

A goalscorer of Salah’s ilk accumulating an xG (Expected Goals) of just 0.18 while also completing no dribbles indicates that he struggled to impact proceedings.

Credit needs to be afforded to Thomas Frank’s side, who managed to tame the in-form attacker.

Salah is eyeing a longer contract while Liverpool are concerned about handing him a long-term deal but ultimately, this dispute is yet to have truly impacted his form.

Salah has been the Premier League’s best player and after having such an outstanding first half of the season, it is tough to maintain such unprecedented standards.

The following weeks and months will prove whether Troy Deeney’s claim about the global phenomenon is true or not.
