Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Newcastle United, West Ham United and Everton are just some of the clubs that have been linked with Mats Hummels in recent weeks.

Spurs, the Blues, the Magpies, the Hammers and the Toffees will all be eager to bolster their ranks this summer in hope of better campaigns next time round.

Tottenham finished fifth after being in the top-four picture for much of the season, while Chelsea will want to do better than a Europa Conference League spot.

Meanwhile, Newcastle and West Ham both fell short of European qualification last season, while Everton only secured Premier League safety in late April.

It was reported in June that Hummels‘ representatives spoke with the above teams to garner interest for their client in pursuit of a new club.

The 35-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of June, and Fabrizio Romano has now relayed an update on his future.

Bologna make formal proposal to Mats Hummels but player yet to decide

Romano, taking to X, relayed what Bologna CEO Claudio Fenucci said about Hummels, namely confirming that they’ve sent a formal proposal to the player.

But while the Rossoblu have booked a medical for the Germany international, he needs more time to decide his future, added Romano.

Hummels showing no signs of slowing down

Admittedly, the prospect of signing a 35-year-old may not be the kind of opportunity many top clubs would jump to.

However, Hummels is showing no signs of slowing down. Last season, he made 40 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund.

This included every minute of BVB’s Champions League campaign, in which he helped them reach the final.

It remains to be seen whether the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle, West Ham or Everton will make a late attempt to sign Hummels.

Considering he won’t cost a penny in transfer fees, he would surely represent a fairly inexpensive gamble for any of the aforementioned clubs.
