Simon Jordan wants to “tear his own head off” after hearing Liverpool fans criticise the club for letting Trent Alexander-Arnold run down his contract.

The Reds defender is now able to negotiate a contract with foreign clubs that would see him leave Liverpool for no transfer fee in six months time.

Football Insider revealed on 3 January Liverpool are unlikely to sell Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid this month, meaning if the right-back does leave Anfield it will likely be for free this coming summer.

Simon Jordan spoke on talkSPORT (6 January) about his frustrations of hearing Liverpool fans critiquing the club (10.19am): “I listened to a breakfast show on the way in talking about the fact that this situation with Alexander-Arnold is the clubs fault. Sometimes I listen to fans and I want to tear my own head off, how is it the clubs fault if a player doesn’t want to sign a contract?

“If he refuses to sign a contract, wont sign for Liverpool and wants to run a contract down, that’s not the clubs fault. That’s the player’s desire and the agent’s opportunity. I think its better to keep the status quo, I think Connor Bradley is a far better defender than Alexander-Arnold could ever hope to be.”

The superstar right-back has recently been linked with a move to Real Madrid, and with no news about a contract extension, it seems increasingly likely he will join England teammate Jude Bellingham in the Spanish capital.

Alexander-Arnold is not the only key player linked with a move away from the club, Mohamed Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk are also currently on contracts that expire in six months’ time.

Van Dijk and Salah seem likely to sign extensions with the club, as reported by Mick Brown to Football Insider.

Losing any of those three, especially for a reduced fee in January, would be devastating for the Reds, who currently top the Premier League table in manager Arne Slot’s first season in charge.

It would seem that instead, they would prefer to keep the core of the team together for this season, and then look to find a solution for Alexander-Arnold leaving in the summer.

Liverpool may already have their Alexander-Arnold replacement in the form of fellow academy graduate Bradley, who came off the bench and almost scored in the game against Manchester United on Sunday (5 January).

In other news, Liverpool have identified a one-of-a-kind player to join the team in the Summer transfer window.
