Liverpool have had a very bright start to this Premier League season.

The Reds are second in the table after five games, winning four matches and conceding just one goal in the process.

The Merseyside club look good value for a title tilt this season, but according to Chris Sutton, speaking on BBC 606, there's one player at Anfield who isn't playing his best football at the moment.

Indeed, Sutton has been less than impressed by Mohamed Salah's recent form, claiming that the Egyptian is going through a little dip at the moment.

Mohamed Salah's form criticised by Chris Sutton

Sutton shared his verdict on the £34m man and his recent performances.

"Here's one for you, just watching Mo Salah this season, you've seen every game and I've seen Salah in the last couple of games, he does just seem slightly off his best. He had a number of opportunities. He's still influencing games, but is it fair to say he's going through a little bit of a dip," Sutton said.

Mohamed Salah's standards are ridiculous

These comments just go to show how ridiculous the standards are around Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian has three goals and four assists in five Premier League games so far this season – that is a ridiculous return for any other player.

Indeed, other players are being lauded for much less.

Take for example Emile Smith Rowe at Fulham, he has two goals and one assist so far this season, and he's being hailed as an incredible signing, but Salah is outperforming that level by some way, and he's being criticised.

Salah is almost a victim of his own success, he's set ridiculously high standards for himself, and when he doesn't live up to those standards, he's quickly criticised.

Salah remains one of the Premier League's top performers this season, and he deserves credit for his incredible consistency and ability.
