Amad Diallo agrees new long-term contract with Manchester United

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has confirmed that Amad Diallo has agreed a new four-and-a-half year deal at Manchester United.

The 22-year-old is set for a huge pay rise as reward for his efforts and progress at Old Trafford, and the new deal will be announced by club in the next 24 hours.

His contract was due to expire at the end of the season, although Man United held an option to extend his deal by 12 months.

Man United didn’t take up the option they had, as they didn’t need to – Diallo was focused on committing to the Red Devils.

And after tying Diallo down to a long-term deal, Man United’s focus will turn to Kobbie Mainoo again after his talks stalled – they fully intend on keeping him.

Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho is open to leaving Man United in favour of a return to his boyhood club Atletico Madrid.

What Ruben Amorim has said about Diallo

Diallo has shot to prominence at Man United this season, becoming a key player for Amorim after he replaced Erik ten Hag in the dugout.

The Ivory Coast international has scored six goals in 28 appearances, including the equaliser in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield.

Diallo has netted three times in his last six Man United outings, which included a last-minute winner against rivals Manchester City in December.

Amorim sung Diallo’s praises in December in wake of his two assists in the 4-0 win over Everton.

“He is really big in talent, but small in size,” he said, as per Goal.com. “He did a great job but he also has to improve. He was really good again.

“Ruud van Nistelrooy helped him a lot in his games in charge and now he's helping me.

“He's in a great moment, but that moment started with Ruud. So I just take advantage of Ruud's work with Amad!

“He was really good defending and really good attacking so he has to continue to play like that.

“You could feel it in the end of the game he was really, really tired so we have to manage that and increase his physical ability.

“I'd like to take credit for [Amad's pressing], but that's him. He's like that. He's smart. He's explosive.”
