Liverpool are desperate to keep hold of Harvey Elliott this summer as they have high hopes for his future, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 21-year-old has been “disappointed” with his lack of involvement in Arne Slot’s first-team plans this season.

However, Liverpool are set to turn down advances for his exit despite interest from Bundesliga outfits which has lingered since the January window.

The midfielder’s experience in the game despite his young age is seen as a valuable asset for the Reds and he remains part of their long-term plans.

This comes after Football Insider revealed in January that Liverpool are set for contract talks with Elliott as he will have just two years remaining on his deal come the summer.

Harvey Elliott’s Liverpool future decided after new twist

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this month that Elliott is unhappy with his role at Liverpool and could leave in search of increased playing time.

Elliott has played just 583 minutes of football so far this season, with just four of his 21 appearances coming from the start while he has yet to start a Premier League game.

His summer departure is now considered unlikely, but the midfielder will seek assurances about his future playing time after what has been a frustrating season.

Liverpool, meanwhile, remain keen to extend his stay at the club beyond 2027 as they want to avoid the possibility of losing the 21-year-old for free in two years’ time.

Arne Slot has new contract headache after Ibrahima Konate latest

Liverpool have been forced to deal with a difficult situation regarding out-of-contract players this season as Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk could all leave.

However, the situation is not currently going to improve next season as Ibrahima Konate, Andy Robertson and Caoimhin Kelleher will see their current deals expite in 2026.

The former has been heavily linked with a move away in the summer after Football Insider revealed Liverpool have made little progress towards Konate’s renewal.

Meanwhile, Robertson will hold talks about his Liverpool future as the club are planning to sign a new left-back in the summer transfer window.
