Liverpool have yet to make progress towards a new contract agreement with Ibrahima Konate, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that PSG and Real Madrid have been put on alert by the situation and could make a move to sign him this summer.

The 25-year-old will have just 12 months remaining on his contract in June and Liverpool could be tempted to cash in rather than letting him leave for free in 2026.

Football Insider first revealed that Liverpool had opened talks with Konate in October, but they are still no closer to agreeing terms over an extension.

As a result, there is a growing feeling at Anfield that the centre-back could be allowed to leave should an interested club come up with an offer for him.

Ibrahima Konate future up in the air at Liverpool

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 18 March that Konate’s exit will depend on Virgil van Dijk’s future.

He explained that if the 33-year-old leaves upon the expiry of his contract, Liverpool will be very reluctant to see both of their current starting centre-backs leave in the same window.

However, if Van Dijk commits to a contract extension at Anfield, Arne Slot’s side will be open to offers for Konate amid growing interest among Europe’s top clubs.

Brown previously told Football Insider that Liverpool are concerned about Konate and are not convinced he is the best long-term option for the position.

Instead, they are targeting the signing of a new centre-back this summer as Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen are their top targets.

Andy Robertson future update emerges amid Arne Slot plan

Centre-back is not the only area Liverpool are planning to strengthen in this summer, as a potential defensive reshuffle remains on the cards at Anfield.

Football Insider revealed on 21 March that Andy Robertson is set for talks with Liverpool about his future at the club amid growing concerns.

Robertson is another whose contract is set to expire in 2026, and concerns have been raised about his long-term position in Slot’s plans as they consider alternative options.

Football Insider revealed that Liverpool want to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth and have also considered a move for Fulham star Antonee Robinson.
