West Ham are working on multiple new manager plans as their move for Graham Potter advances following overnight talks, sources have told Football Insider.

The Irons hierarchy have decided Julen Lopetegui will not be in charge for their next Premier League match – which comes against Fulham next Tuesday (14 January).

However, the identity of the person in charge for Friday’s (10 January) FA Cup third round clash against Aston Villa is up in the air.

West Ham are locked in talks with Potter, 49, with discussions centring on the length of a potential contract and performance-related clauses.

The ex-Chelsea boss, who left Stamford Bridge in April 2023, wants a two-and-a-half-year deal.

West Ham have offered him a deal running until the end of this season with an option for the club to extend by two years if conditions are met.

West Ham make Lopetegui decision – caretaker could be in place for Aston Villa clash

The London club could appoint a caretaker boss for the Aston Villa clash before a full-time appointment is finalised.

Lopetegui’s reign is set to end after a 4-1 away loss at Man City on Saturday (4 January), which followed a 5-0 defeat against Liverpool on 29 December.

West Ham sit 14th in the Premier League table – seven points above the relegation zone.

The Irons only appointed Lopetegui on a two-year deal in the summer but he has managed just seven wins from his first 22 games in the London Stadium hot seat.
