West Ham only want to sanction a loan deal for Ajax striker Brian Brobbey, sources have told Football Insider.
The Irons have held extensive talks with the Dutch giants over a move for the 22-year-old forward.
Graham Potter’s side are desperate to add striking reinforcements before the 3 February deadline after injuries to Jarrad Bowen, Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio.
However, the move for Brobbey has hit a stumbling block with Ajax only willing to let the Netherlands international leave on a permanent basis.
They are keen to agree a sale this month or let the striker join West Ham on loan with a mandatory purchase option.
Negotiations are currently at an impasse with just days left of the mid-season transfer window.
Brobbey has made 29 appearances across all competitions for Ajax this term, starting in 18 of those outings.

He has notched three goals and seven assists – but just one of those strikes has come in the Eredivisie.
The 22-year-old is a fully-fledged Netherlands international and has scored once in seven appearances for his country.
West Ham lined up with Lucas Paqueta up front for their 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday (25 January).
The Irons sit 14th in the Premier League table with 15 games of this season still to play.
