TBR Football have learned what Liverpool and Real Madrid are thinking after Arsenal made a £50.5m move to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.

Mikel Arteta is understood to be a huge admirer of the Spain international – who actually rejected the chance to join Arsenaland Liverpool last summer – due to his stunning performances at Real Sociedad.

Sources inform TBR Football that Zubimendi – who Ian Wright rates highly – is now ready to leave San Sebastien once the 2024/25 campaign is over, with Arsenal making an early move to secure his signature.

Talks are ongoing between Arsenal – who are willing to pay his €60m (£50.5m) release clause – and Real Sociedad, with personal terms close to being agreed as well.

There are – however – two other sides who admire Martin Zubimendi, with TBR Football receiving information on whether they will challenge Arsenal for the Spaniard.

Liverpool not expected to make Martin Zubimendi move – although Real Madrid could

Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent at TBR Football – has now been told that Liverpool are not expected to challenge Arsenal for the Real Sociedad No.4’s signature, despite their pursuit last summer.

There is – however – interest from Real Madrid in Zubimendi, which is one reason why Arsenal are trying to seal an agreement now.

Sources have told TBR Football that Arsenal remain confident of finalising a deal for the 24-year-old despite interest from the European giants, who arguably boast the strongest pull of any side on the planet.

What Arsenal No.3 Kieran Tierney has previously said about Martin Zubimendi

Kieran Tierney has previously praised Zubimendi – having played alongside the Spaniard during his time on loan at Real Sociedad in the 2023/24 campaign.

The Scotland international said: “You have world class players like Zubimendi… It's not that people don't think they're good, it's just that if you're only watching the Premier League every week, it's hard to know.”

TBR Football understand Tierney wants to join Celtic – however – so he may not get the chance to play with the Spain international again at Arsenal next season.
