Spanish media love what Pedro Porro did vs Serbia as Tottenham star stands out for Spain

Pedro Porro returned to the Spanish national team following an impressive start to the season with Tottenham and the defender did not disappoint Luis de la Fuente.

The 24-year-old was recalled to the squad following an ACL injury suffered by Dani Carvajal and he was given the chance to start in both Spain’s matches.

Porro had a mixed first game against Denmark as despite winning 1-0 and helping keep a clean sheet, he had a few tricky moments during the match.

However, De la Fuente kept his trust in the Tottenham man against Serbia and his faith was repaid with a standout performance in another win to nil.

How the Spanish media reacted to Pedro Porro vs Serbia

Porro helped Spain to secure another Nations League win as they defeated Serbia 3-0 and he also managed an assist for Aymeric Laporte’s opening goal.

The Spurs star whipped in an outstanding cross from outside the area which picked out the former Manchester City defender who nodded home to set Spain on their way to victory.

Porro has become renowned for excellent technical ability and the Spanish media were left very impressed with his assist for Spain’s opener and his overall display.

Diario Sport gave him the highest rating and an 8/10, writing: “The first goal came from his boots and he created a lot of danger on his flank. He was also very attentive in closing down the Serbian full-backs’ runs. He was finally able to prove De la Fuente right in his candidacy to be Carvajal’s replacement.”

Marca loved the attacking ability he brought to the right-hand side of Spain’s team: “He provided a great assist for Laporte’s goal, showing that he loves to attack and has a good foot. A run and his subsequent shot led to the penalty that Morata missed, and he then rounded off his game with a good assortment of passes and shots. Carvajal has someone to cover for his absence.”

Meanwhile, Diario AS were also impressed by his performance: “De la Fuente trusted him for the second consecutive match and he quickly returned those credentials, with the cross to the far post that Laporte converted into the first goal.”

Relevo believe Porro’s display against Serbia certainly justified his recall: “This international break has vindicated the role of two worthy returning players like Pedro Porro and Alex Baena.”

Real Madrid on red alert after Porro’s Spain display

Real Madrid are looking to sign a right-back and those plans will only have been accelerated following the injury suffered by Carvajal.

Madrid are interested in signing Porro from Tottenham and his display for the Spanish national team will have certainly caught their eye.

Fortunately, for the North London club, Madrid are also keen on Trent Alexander-Arnold and given his contract situation, he could be a more likely target. Alexander-Arnold has just one year remaining on his deal and Los Blancos are attentive to the situation.
