'Special' player Liverpool sold for £27.5m scores incredible overhead kick in stunning display for new club

Liverpool refrained from splashing the cash in the summer transfer window in what turned out to be a quite few months for Arne Slot.

Federico Chiesa was the only player who walked through the door at Anfield, although Liverpool agreed a deal in principle to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in the summer of 2025.

In terms of outgoing, though, the Reds were quite busy as a handful of fringe players were moved on for sizable transfer fees.

One such player was Fabio Carvalho, with Brentford singing the Portuguese youngster for a fee believed to be in the region of £27.5m.

And after a quiet few weeks, the 22-year-old has finally sprung to life to deliver a match-winning display for his new club.

Brentford secured a 3-1 home win against Leyton Orient in the EFL Cup and Carvalho was the star of the show as he scored one and set up two more in an eye-catching performance.

With the Bees down by a goal, Carvalho scored a stunning overhead kick from close range to restore parity after which he set up Mikkel Damsgaard and Christian Norgaard before the interval to effectively win the game for his side.

The 22-year-old has finally popped up with a big moment for his new club and will look to carry on in the same vein in the coming weeks.

Carvalho was undoubtedly Brentford’s best player and earned himself a Sofascore rating of 8.9 as he played the full ninety minutes against Orient.

He had two shots on target and completed four key passes as he finished the game with a goal, two assists and an impressive pass percentage of 85% (41/48).

Carvalho has been described as a ‘special’ player by Liverpool youngster Tyler Morton, with the pair spending the second half of the previous campaign on loan at Hull City.

The 22-year-old will look to build on his impressive display in the EFL Cup as Brentford prepare to take on Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
