In Arsenal's 2-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain, the Gunners scored yet another set-piece goal, the latest tribute to Nicolas Jover's impact in N5.

Surprisingly, Gabriel Magalhaes wasn’t the player on the end of Bukayo Saka's whipped in delivery on this occasion, in fact no Arsenal player was.

Saka's free-kick eventually went into the back of the net without a touch from an Arsenal player, much to the winger's delight.

Saka spoke after the game admitting that he has to sacrifice a lot offensively to keep up with the defensive demands Mikel Arteta puts on his wingers, so such a goal is always a bonus.

On the other wing, Gabriel Martinelli's recent performances have been largely judged on his defensive output rather than his attacking flair.

Martinelli played well at Manchester City despite very little attacking threat – a tale of Arsenal's new style.

Nicolas Jover appears to have masterminded another set-piece goal at Arsenal

That being said, many may have felt as if Saka's free-kick was slightly undercooked when he fired it into the PSG box, it didn't have its usual elevation for the likes of Gabriel to head home.

However, as could be seen during Amazon Prime's coverage of the game, Gabriel actually seemed to gesture to his Arsenal teammates that the delivery was coming in low.

As he walked to get into position, Gabriel looked back at his teammates and pointed his hand down whilst appearing to announce which of Jover's plans were in action.

Therefore, it would seem that Arsenal recognised that either PSG or Gianluigi Donnarumma were particularly weak at dealing with such a delivery.

And if that is the case, then it’s another piece of Jover's genius, who has been just as important as any other signing over the last few years.

All signed from Manchester City, it wouldn't be a surprise if Jover outlasted Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko in north London.

Gabriel Martinelli criticised for his PSG display

After mentioning Martinelli's strong defensive work, media in France didn't necessarily feel the same way following the Brazilian's display in PSG's 2-0 loss.

French media thought Martinelli was 'invisible' for Arsenal, at least his first half minutes.

That's unlikely to be feedback that concerns the winger or Arteta – both know exactly how they are trying to win games as a unit right now.

Of course, Martinelli will undoubtedly be hoping that he can have one or two more attacking moments when the Gunners face Southampton on Saturday, another must win game.

And perhaps Arteta may even be tempted to hand another start to one of Myles Lewis-Skelly or Ethan Nwaneri just before the international break.
