Stefan Borson: Aston Villa could blow Newcastle out of the water after '£90m' reveal

Aston Villa are on course to earn three times more than what Newcastle United earned in Champions League prize money last season.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the West Midlands giants could rake in up to £90million from the competition.
Villa booked their place in the Champions League after securing a fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
Unai Emery's side have had a strong start to their European campaign after winning four of their opening six games, leaving them sitting fifth in the revamped league phase of the competition.
Villa now have just two games left to play against Monaco and Celtic as they look to secure their qualification for the knockout rounds.
Aston Villa could earn £90m after Champions League displays
Borson revealed Villa are likely to earn significantly more than the estimated £30-35million Newcastle made from the Champions League last season following their group-stage exit.
"Villa have got a problem in terms of the disconnect between wage bill and revenue," Borson told Football Insider.
"The big question is whether you can be a club that bucks the trend over a number of years qualifying for Europe without spending more than £250million on wages. It's just really hard to do.
"I think Villa this season will be in a better position than Newcastle last season because it looks like Villa will probably generate maybe even three times what Newcastle generated from the Champions League, just because Newcastle went out relatively early and didn't win many games.
"I think Newcastle generated somewhere in the region of £30-35million from the Champions League.
"Villa could get to £90million if they carry on in the way they have started. That would make a difference.
"That is something that can then be spent on the wage bill to get you competing on a regular basis."
