Chelsea look set to continue their heavy spending despite seeing little sign of improvement on the pitch since BlueCo took over in May 2022.

The ownership group, which is spearheaded by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, has spent more than £1billion on new signings over the past three years.

The London giants have now completed the double signing of Sporting Lisbon stars Geovany Quenda, 17, and Dario Essugo, 20, for a combined £62.4million.

Winger Quenda will remain in Lisbon until the end of next season, while defensive midfielder Essugo will link up with Chelsea's first team this summer following the conclusion of his loan spell at Las Palmas.

The Portuguese duo are understood to have both signed seven-year deals at Stamford Bridge.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football InsiderChelsea have shown a sign of confidence they are not concerned about breaching the profit and sustainability rules (PSR) following their latest signings.

The club sold two Stamford Bridge hotels to BlueCo in 2023 for a total of £76.5million to ensure their pre-tax losses fell from potentially as high as £166million to £90million for 2022-23.

Under the PSR rules, top-flight clubs can lose a maximum of £105million over a rolling three-year period.

Chelsea will announce a big sale within days that will show how they avoided a spending breach for last season as they prepare to release their latest accounts for 2023-24.

Chelsea chiefs take ‘odd’ approach after deals agreed

Borson believes Stamford Bridge chiefs have taken an "odd" approach after handing out long-term contracts to Quenda and Essugo.

He told Football Insider: "I think those deals are a sign of confidence that all of the stuff that I’ve spoken about many times does not concern them.

"They have either got mechanisms to comply with Premier League PSR or they simply don’t care and will pay whatever fines or points penalties come their way as they try and rebuild a first team that’s successful.

"I think it’s a sign of their ambition. It’s a sign of a longer-term plan along the lines that they’ve put in place now for the last three years.

"They clearly still believe in very long contracts despite the situations that they found themselves in with Mudryk and many other players.

"Looking from the outside, it still seems a very odd approach on the contract side.

"But to be fair, the detail of those contracts may allow for earlier exits than the full terms."

Chelsea tempted to sell Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider Enzo Fernandez is wanted by Real Madrid as they look to bolster their midfield options.

The Argentina international has made 35 appearances so far this season, registering five goals and nine assists.

However, a significant offer from Real Madrid could tempt Stamford Bridge chiefs into selling as they look to balance the books.
