Chelsea's owners have come under fire after the club have made little progress since they completed their £4.25billion takeover in May 2022.

BlueCo, which is spearheaded by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, has spent more than £1billion on new signings over the past three years.

The London giants' latest published accounts for 2022-23 revealed their operating losses stood at £218million before player-trading profits and other asset sales were factored in.

Chelsea sold two Stamford Bridge hotels to BlueCo in 2023 for a total of £76.5million to ensure their pre-tax losses fell from potentially as high as £166million to £90million for 2022-23.

Under the profit and sustainability rules (PSR), top-flight clubs can lose a maximum of £105million over a rolling three-year period.

A new Uefa report revealed Chelsea's revenue dropped from £513million in 2022-23 to £435million last season, while their pre-tax losses stood at £93million across the same period.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the club's accounts for 2023-24 will be released in the next 10 days, revealing what their "magic sale" was to avoid a spending breach.

Chelsea are understood to have sold their women's team to BlueCo in June last year, with the deal believed to be worth in excess of £150million.

Chelsea face £200m hit after shirt sponsor blow

Borson insisted Chelsea are set to make an operating loss of more than £200million this season after failing to land a front-of-shirt sponsorship deal.

He told Football Insider: "We will see in the next 10 days really what their numbers look like for 2023-24 and what this magic sale is that has salvaged last season’s position from a PSR perspective.

"It will have been big. We think it’s the women’s team. It’ll be interesting to see the value of the women’s team and what else they sold.

"All of that information is coming before the end of March at Companies House. It’ll actually be posted probably a couple of days after that in terms of it being available. It’s all coming. They won’t be able to hide it.

"The question will be what does it say about the old hotels deal? What was the final price agreed with the Premier League? What other assets have they sold?

"It may also give us some indications about what else they will be selling for this season because, make no mistake, this is a season where they have no Champions League and they have no front-of-shirt sponsor and they have some very big bills.

"As I’ve said before, that will mean that they will make an operating loss again this season of over £200million, so they will again be in need of a balancing sale of some other asset to make PSR.

"Although it could be footballers, it probably won't be footballers. We also expect for them to have breached the squad control rules in Uefa alongside Aston Villa.

"But we know that is only likely to end in a relatively small fine and, therefore, it's not really of any major concern to anybody."

Chelsea certain to sign Jadon Sancho

Football Insider revealed on 19 March Man United are unlikely to be open to Jadon Sancho returning at the end of this season.

Chelsea have an obligation to buy the 24-year-old for £25million when his loan spell comes to an end, but they can pay a fee to cancel the deal if they wish.

However, sources say Chelsea are certain to sign Sancho if they qualify for next season's Champions League.

Chelsea currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, one point above fifth-place Manchester City after 29 matches.
