Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold looks certain to leave the club to join Real Madrid this summer.

The England international is out of contract on 30 June and can leave Anfield on a free once his deal expires.

Alexander-Arnold has reportedly agreed personal terms with Real Madrid after being heavily linked with the La Liga giants for several months.

Liverpool fans are frustrated with Alexander-Arnold's decision, with many of them hitting out at his perceived lack of loyalty as the club are set to miss out on a transfer fee for their academy graduate.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Real Madrid have become very good at picking up stars on free transfers, but he insisted their wage bill will be "enormous" if the 26-year-old completes his move this summer.

The Spanish champions have signed Kylian Mbappe, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba on free transfers in recent years.

Liverpool set for big savings after Trent Alexander-Arnold exit

Borson revealed Liverpool could be saving up to £150,000 a week following Alexander-Arnold's anticipated exit.

He told Football Insider"The player has been there for years.

"I don’t think he’s done anything wrong with wanting to go. Real Madrid are getting very good at leveraging these free transfers now, using their reputation and the scale of the club to bring in players for free.

"It’s a superpower because they’re bringing in the Mbappe's and the Trent's. I think it is an issue for all the other European clubs when one team can pick up these sorts of players.

"They are going to have an enormous wage bill, but they’re going to see a bit of a saving on the amortisation side because they won’t be paying the transfer fee. I think it’s great for Real and very bad for Liverpool, but sometimes these things happen.

"I don’t think he’s done anything wrong with wanting to test himself in a new country, develop himself, try and win something in another country and enjoy life over there. He’s won everything here.

"It’s just one of those things, but you know his market value is very substantial, so they’ve lost that. The cost of replacing him like for like can’t really be done because I would say that he’s a fairly unique player, so they can’t replace him easily.

"They have just got to hope that probably Bradley or somebody else, some other youth player maybe can fill the gap and make the saving on the wages.

"I would think he’s a player that’s probably on between £125,000-150,000 a week maybe, so there’s a chunky wage saving.

"But it’s very disappointing to lose a player of that age on a free transfer."
