Chelsea have experienced a mixed season as they go in pursuit of a return to Champions League football at Stamford Bridge.

The London giants currently sit fourth in the Premier League table following their 1-0 defeat against Arsenal on Sunday (16 March).

A fifth-place finish looks set to be enough for a Champions League spot next season as England is comfortably leading the way in Uefa's coefficient table.

Enzo Maresca's side are competing in the Conference League this season, where they are through to the quarter-finals following their 3-1 victory on aggregate over Copenhagen in the last 16.

Photos emerged online showing hospitality areas largely empty during the second leg at Stamford Bridge on 13 March, with the 35,280 overall attendance Chelsea's lowest of the season.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider there is a limit to what people will pay for hospitality seats following a dramatic increase in prices.

The most expensive tickets behind the dugout for the west London club’s upcoming games against Liverpool and Manchester United in May have been priced at £12,500.

Chelsea's owners have considered stadium expansion plans, with Stamford Bridge only holding 40,173 seats.

Chelsea to face ticket battle after price hike

Borson insisted clubs planning to build new stadiums and have a "huge" number of seats will face issues with their ticket prices.

He told Football Insider: "If you had a look at Chelsea’s main stand for hospitality against Copenhagen last week, almost the whole tier was empty.

"There is a limit to what people are going to pay for this stuff.

"This is the test for the teams that are building big, new stadiums and having huge numbers of seats.

"There is a limit. Ultimately, it will come down to supply and demand.

"This battle on ticket prices is not going away."

Chelsea certain to agree Jadon Sancho deal

Football Insider revealed on 17 March Chelsea are certain to sign Jadon Sancho if they qualify for the Champions League this season.

They have an obligation to buy the 24-year-old for £25million when his loan deal comes to an end this summer.

However, it has emerged Chelsea can pay Man United a fee to cancel the deal if they wish.

Maresca's side believe a £25million outlay is a good deal for a player of Sancho's quality, with the winger registering two goals and six assists in 28 appearances this season.
