Stefan Borson: Liverpool could be about to smash annual club record
Today at 06:00 AM
Liverpool are set for a record-breaking season financially following their impressive performances in the Premier League and Champions League.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Merseyside giants' overall revenue could reach close to £700million for this campaign.
The Liverpool Echo reported on 7 January the club will post a second successive financial loss for last season after making a £9million loss in 2022-23.
Liverpool's overall revenue fell slightly from a record £594.3million in 2021-22 to £593.8million in 2022-23, while their commercial revenue increased by £25million to £272.5million across the same period.
This season, however, looks set to be a strong financial year for the Merseysiders, with Arne Slot's side currently sitting top of both the Premier League and Champions League tables.
Liverpool to maximise prize money after on-field performances
Borson revealed Liverpool look set to maximise their prize money for this campaign following their on-field performances.
He told Football Insider: "The key thing that you can look at for Liverpool this season, where everything seems to be coming together, is you are going to have high matchday revenue because they have got the new seats.
"They are also going to have very high commercial because they are back in the Champions League.
"They are top of the Champions League and have won all their games, so they are going to have very high revenue coming from Europe.
"It looks like they are going to win the Premier League, so they are going to max out on the domestic prize money.
"That means their revenue for the current season could easily be £100million on top of last season. They could easily get close to £700million for this season.
"I doubt that their costs will have moved materially from around the £500million level.
"Whereas the season just gone has been disappointing from a financial perspective, the current season is looking like it's going to be an absolute bumper year.
"They have got no concerns anyway on PSR because they have got loads of capacity."
