West Ham are looking to close the financial gap on some of their Premier League rivals after improving their revenues in recent years.

The east London club have pinpointed their commercial income as an area for improvement as they look to cash in on opportunities at the London Stadium.

West Ham posted a record-breaking revenue last season after their turnover surged from £236.7million in 2022-23 to £269.8million.

That was aided by a £6.8million boost in commercial revenue, which rose to £41.9million in 2023-24.

Nathan Thompson was appointed as an executive director at the London Stadium earlier this week after he's spearheaded the club's commercial operations over the past few years.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Thompson could have been earmarked to replace Karren Brady in the future.

Brady is vice-chair at the London Stadium, while co-owners David Sullivan, Vanessa Gold and Albert "Tripp" Smith all sit on the club's board alongside executive director Tara Warren, chief financial officer Andy Mollett and non-executive director Daniel Harris.

West Ham owners make ‘big’ statement after appointment

Borson insisted Thompson's promotion is a "big" endorsement of the work he's done at the London Stadium.

He told Football Insider: "There are not that many executive directors on that board.

"There are lots of non-execs but not many execs. I think there are two now.

"Karen Brady is vice-chair. I would say that it’s a sign that he may well be being earmarked for the CEO role at some point.

"I think it’s a big endorsement of the job that he’s been doing.

"I think it would be a watch this space development.

"I doubt it’s imminent, but maybe it serves as a successor to Karren Brady at some point."

West Ham lead race to sign Chris Rigg

Football Insider revealed on 30 March West Ham lead the race to sign Chris Rigg after he's caught the eye for Sunderland.

Tottenham and Everton have also been linked with the 17-year-old, with Stadium of Light chiefs facing a battle to keep hold of the midfielder this summer.

Rigg has registered four goals and one assist in 37 appearances in Sunderland's bid for promotion this season.
