Steve Nicol thinks he knows what Trent Alexander-Arnold is going to do at Liverpool now

We're two months away from the January transfer window, and while that may be exciting in a lot of ways, there is reason to be concerned if you're a Liverpool fan.
Indeed, Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are all out of contract next summer, and in January, they can sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs abroad.
Saudi Pro League clubs continue to circle Salah, and while Van Dijk appears to be much more calm about his future, he could still be approached if this situation isn't sorted by the new year.
Alexander-Arnold is perhaps the most concerning case here though.
Alexander-Arnold is being courted by Real Madrid, and, according to Steve Nicol, speaking on ESPN, that move is looking increasingly likely.
What Steve Nicol is hearing about Trent Alexander-Arnold
The Liverpool legend says that based on the noises he's hearing, Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid is likely.
Indeed, Nicol says that he gets the feeling that Alexander-Arnold will be headed to the Bernabeu next summer based on the noises he's hearing.
"Absolutely if anyone fits the profile of Real Madrid it's Trent Alexander-Arnold. He's a full-back who doesn't really defend. People have been praising him for that this season, but I'm not so sure about that," Nicol said.
"He absolutely fits the profile of Real Madrid, and, if I'm honest all of the noises I hear absolutely points towards him going. The fact that Carvajal has had such a bad injury means that Real Madrid's desire is even stronger.
"I get the feeling that in the summer Real Madrid and Alexander-Arnold are going to be getting together."
Which players have Real Madrid signed from Liverpool.
Real Madrid have been a thorn in Liverpool's side for a long time, and they look to be causing the Reds another big issue here.
Not only have Real Madrid beaten Liverpool in two Champions League finals in recent years, they've also beaten them to key transfer targets in recent times too in the shape of Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham, while Liverpool had conversations about signing Kylian Mbappe before he went to Madrid.
Of course, this isn't the first time Madrid have come and snatched a star player from Liverpool. In fact, they even have history of taking local lads such as Alexander-Arnold.
Players to have joined Real Madrid from Liverpool | Year | Transfer fee |
Steve McManaman | 2000 | Free Transfer |
Michael Owen | 2004 | £8m + Antonio Nunez |
Jerzy Dudek | 2007 | Free Transfer |
Alvaro Arbeloa | 2009 | £5m |
Xabi Alonso | 2009 | £30m |
Madrid do have the pulling power to take the likes of Steve McManaman and Michael Owen away from their boyhood clubs, and they may be about to do the same with Trent Alexander-Arnold here.
Sadly, Liverpool may be about to lose a true fan favourite to Madrid as the Spanish giants continue to lurk and plot their move for Alexander-Arnold.
