Steven Gerrard will remain in charge of Al Ettifaq despite his side’s poor start to the season, talkSPORT understands.

However, assistant manager Dean Holden and sporting director Mark Allen have both left the club by mutual consent following a meeting on Monday.

Al Ettifaq sit 12th in the Saudi Pro League.

They have lost five of their ten games this season, suffering four league defeats in their last five matches.

Ex-England skipper Gerrard was booed by his own fans after losing 2-0 to local rivals Al Qadsiah earlier this month.

Their most recent defeat came against Al Hilal last Friday, with them falling to a 3-1 defeat.

Gerrard took charge of the Saudi-based club in July 2023.

The former Liverpool captain's current contract runs until 2027.

Former Manchester City Academy manager Mark Allen had joined the club in January.

Meanwhile Holden, who previously managed League One Charlton Athletic, was appointed as his assistant in February.

In Gerrard's first season in charge, he guided the club to finish sixth in the Saudi Pro League.

They sat 48 points behind league winners Al Hilal.

Gerrard, who previously managed Rangers and Aston Villa, was recently tipped to make a shock return to Ibrox.

talkSPORT’s Ally McCoist said: “He’d be welcome back, of course.

“I mean, he won the title in his time at Rangers, and he would be welcome back.”
