Liverpool put themselves in a fantastic position prior to the international break, but Arne Slot never rests, so he’ll be putting the boys who stayed at home through their paces.

Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards will be the busiest men on Merseyside during the international break with multiple contract renewals to think about.

Liverpool currently have Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah all running out of contract in June 2025.

Interestingly, it has been claimed by Steve McManaman that talks are already underway behind the scenes at Liverpool over potential new deals.

However, Fabrizio Romano has stated that talks will happen in the next days, weeks and months for Salah.

It looks as if the Reds are already eyeing a potential replacement for one of the three…

Liverpool have ‘big advantage’ over Newcastle United to sign £43m star

Virgil van Dijk has left his future very much open and he’s certainly in no rush for a resolution, though he has stated that he’s very happy at Liverpool.

But, it appears as if the Reds are preparing a replacement just in case he does end up leaving.

According to Christian Falk via Caught Offside, Liverpool are on the table to sign Jonathan Tah.

"But there's another outfit to keep an eye on – Liverpool. In the far-flung future, they will need a successor for Virgil van Dijk. Jonathan Tah could be that for Liverpool.

“They are also on the table at this time.

"I think the big advantage for Liverpool in the race for Tah is that the Premier League was always his big, big dream.

"There will always be rumours linking him with a move to Newcastle. However, if Liverpool were to knock on his door, there's perhaps a big chance that he'll be playing in the Premier League next season."

What has Xabi Alonso had to say about Jonathan Tah?

Xabi Alonso is a big fan of Jonathan Tah.

“For me, he’s one of the best defenders in Europe at the moment. He deserves all the praise. Keep playing for us #Bayer04 and the national team #DFB as well”

The central defender has some similarities to Van Dijk.

He’s a big physical presence at the heart of the defence, quick and aerially dominant, which saw him play a vital part in Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten run last season.

However, Tah is valued at around £43 million so any potential deal won’t be cheap.
