Sven Botman drops cryptic injury update hint at Newcastle United

19/04/2025 13:29
Sven Botman has dropped a new hint on social media about his potential return from injury as Newcastle United continues without the defender.
The 25-year-old has made just three appearances in the Premier League this season, only getting fit at the beginning of January before suffering a brand-new setback against Arsenal in February.
Newcastle’s 2-0 win over the Gunners in the EFL Cup was the Dutchman’s last act for the Magpies before facing another extended spell on the sidelines, but he could be back before the season is over.
Dan Burn and Fabian Schar have formed a brilliant partnership in his absence, with Eddie Howe’s side shooting up to third in the Premier League table before facing Aston Villa on Saturday, 19 April.
While he is not expected to return for another few weeks, it could be sooner than many supporters had anticipated after his most recent cryptic post.

Taking to Instagram (18 April), Botman shared an image of himself in a tussle with Arsenal’s Kai Havertz, who is also on the sidelines currently, with two hourglass emojis.
The defender is expected to return in May, and with the Magpies facing Mikel Arteta‘s side on Sunday, 18 May, it could be a trip to the Emirates Stadium for Botman in his first game back from injury.
Eddie Howe ready as Champions League qualification comes down to the wire
Football Insider verdict
Howe still has the chance to achieve even more at St James’ Park, even after beating Liverpool to the Carabao Cup trophy, with Champions League qualification more than on the cards.
After Newcastle thrashed Crystal Palace 5-0 on Wednesday, 16 April, they moved above Nottingham Forest into third place in the Premier League after a run of incredible form.
Premier League standings | Points |
2. Arsenal | 63 |
3. Newcastle United | 59 |
4. Nottingham Forest | 57 |
5. Man City | 55 |
The Magpies are currently unbeaten in six matches across all competitions, and with Aston Villa, Brighton, Chelsea and Arsenal all still left to play, their end-of-season run-in has been pretty tough.
However, Howe, who has been linked with replacing Thomas Tuchel as England boss, continues to push forward, albeit he is now in hospital due to pneumonia, and Jason Tindall has taken charge.
Despite this, there is still hope that Newcastle will be back playing Europe’s most elite next season, and they might even pip the Gunners to finishing second in the league table if current form continues.
