Everton's 0-0 draw with Newcastle United on Saturday evening at Goodison Park certainly wasn't without incident even if a goal never quite arrived.

As expected, Anthony Gordon was front and centre of the drama, a forward who decided to leave Everton in search of more success at Newcastle.

On this occasion, Gordon wasn't quite successful, missing a penalty that was correctly awarded in the first half when James Tarkowski needlessly wrestled Sandro Tonali to the ground.

Gordon stepped up and looked overwhelmed by the moment in truth, with Jordan Pickford saving easily once he had dived the right way.

That being said, Everton felt as if they should have been awarded a penalty themselves when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was upended by Dan Burn in the second half.

Jamie O’Hara can’t believe Dominic Calvert-Lewin didn’t get a penalty

After some good work in the middle, Dwight McNeil slipped Calvert-Lewin in one on one, with Nick Pope saving his initial effort.

And when the striker tried to follow up on the rebound, Burn halted his progress, a fair challenge in the eyes of the referee.

That being said, when discussing the moment on talkSPORT, both Jamie O'Hara and Jason Cundy didn't concur.

O'Hara labelled the decision a 'disgrace', saying that Calvert-Lewin was definitely fouled.

He explained: "That is outrageous. It's a stonewall, man. That is a disgrace of a decision."

Cundy replied: "How they have not sent him over to the monitor! Dan Burn is on the wrong side, Calvert-Lewin is about to pull the trigger.

"I am not sure he's going to wrap his foot around and get it on target, having said that. Dan Burn puts his legs in front of him. He catches him. Am I watching something different?"

O'Hara: "Sean Dyche is on the side. He cannot believe, he cannot believe that's not been given. That is a disgrace."

As mentioned, Dyche was furious with the decision at the time, and then continued the same rhetoric after the game.

Dyche said that Everton would have received a free-kick for the challenge anywhere esle on the pitch, explaining why a penalty should have been awarded.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Everyone knows our record of not getting penalties, we don't get one again and you are left frustrated with that.

"He's trying to finish it, the ball's there to be finished and he's trying to finish it. The player I don't think can get the ball and interrupts the [strike].

"Let's put it this way, an easy way to put it for everyone who wants to listen: if that's in the middle of the pitch, do you think that's given as a foul? Because I think everyone would say absolutely, 100 per cent.

"But we can't get penalties, we know that. We hope we do moving forwards. They didn't have a look at it [on the pitch] which was frustrating."
