Arsenal's transfer policy in recent years has certainly been interesting.

The Gunners have prioritised signing younger players with a lot of talent as the likes of Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori and so on have all joined the club and made big impacts.

Arsenal are prioritising signing players under the age of 25, that's for sure, but they're also seemingly focusing on one specific area of their squad.

Indeed, speaking on The Dressing Room, Joe Cole, Wayne Bridge and Carlton Cole have been discussing some of Arsenal's recent signings, and Bridge brought up an interesting stat.

The pundit noted that since 2019, Arsenal have signed 17 new defenders and only six new attackers, a stat that left Joe Cole flabbergasted.

Joe Cole shocked by Arsenal defensive signings

Bridge and Cole discussed where Arsenal have been signing players since 2019.

Bridge noted that Arsenal had signed way more defenders than they had attackers in that time period, much to the surprise of his co-hosts.

"I saw this yesterday. Since 2019 they have signed 17 defenders and only six attackers," Bridge noted.

"Seriously?" Carlton Cole said.

"Wow, that is Arteta's reign from 2019, since he's come in. That is mental isn't it?" Joe Cole said.

Arsenal's defensive signings since 2019

Arsenal have signed a massive number of defenders since 2019, but when you look at the list, you have to say that Arsenal have got a lot of their defensive recruitment spot on.

Arsenal defensive signings since 2019
William Saliba
Gabriel Magalhaes
Ben White
Takehiro Tomiyasu
Jakub Kiwior
Jurrien Timber
Riccardo Calafiori
Oleksandr Zinchenko
Kieran Tierney
David Luiz
Pablo Mari
Cedric Soares
Auston Trusty
Nuno Tavares
Matt Turner*
David Raya*
Aaron Ramsdale*
*Goalkeepers

William Saliba is perhaps the best defender in the world right now, while Gabriel Magalhaes is a very underrated member of this squad too.

Of course, not all of these signings have been slam dunks.

Arsenal have signed a few players who haven't been all that effective in this time such as Auston Trusty and Pablo Mari, but, those players were signed for smaller fees.

Mostly, Arsenal are getting it right when signing new defenders, but it's fair to say that they should now focus on bolstering their attack instead.

Arsenal are in the market for a new striker. Alexander Isak has been linked to Arsenal recently, while Dusan Vlahovic is also an Arsenal target, so these numbers should be balanced out a bit more before too long.

It is remarkable the number of defenders Arsenal have signed as of late, but, as the old saying goes, attack wins you games, defence wins you titles.
