Arsenal's search for a striker this month may have to step up a notch.

Indeed, Arsenal have struggled in front of goal in their last two games against Newcastle and Manchester United.

On top of that, Gabriel Jesus has now ruptured his ACL and is facing up to a year on the sidelines.

As sad as Jesus' injury is, Arsenal are somewhat fortunate in that this injury has occurred slap-bang in the middle of the January transfer window, and striker options are available.

Arsenal like Alexander Isak, while Arsenal had a bid rejected for Dusan Vlahovic this week.

Speaking on KS1 TV, Steve Kay has been discussing Arsenal's failed Vlahovic bid, and he says that Jonathan David is now someone Arsenal could potentially go for after being knocked back on that front.

Arsenal could go for Jonathan David

Kay shared what he knows about Arsenal's striker search.

The journalist says that the Gunners could go for Jonathan David after their move for Vlahovic failed.

"I'm led to believe that we may or we may not, but if we did get someone it wouldn't be surprising.

"Developments with Gabriel Jesus, he could be out for up to a year, awfully bad luck. Possibly won't be back until the middle of next season, bless him.

"Yeah, we are looking for a striker. It seems to be we're looking for someone on loan. That's what I'm hearing.

"Arsenal have tried to loan Vlahovic from Juventus, which they have refused, it's not surprising. He's probably the only one I know that they have looked at. Obviously there are others out there that are possible, Jonathan David is someone Arsenal could get, Jonathan David, but whoever Arsenal bring in, it's difficult for Arteta this."

Jonathan David compared to Dusan Vlahovic

Arsenal have liked Vlahovic for ages, but Arsenal have been linked to David for a long time too.

Vlahovic was seemingly Arsenal's first-choice in this window, but David isn't a bad consolation prize if this deal ends up happening.

Indeed, according to the stats, the £25m man may actually end up being a better signing for Arsenal.

Of course, these are two wildly different players in terms of style.

Standing at 6 ft 3, Vlahovic is a powerful forward who can bully defenders, while David is a more diminutive striker who uses his pace to get in behind.

Arteta wants a physical striker, so you can see why he's so keen on Vlahovic, but small strikers can work in Arteta's system too, a la Gabriel Jesus or Sergio Aguero during his time at Manchester City working with Arteta as assistant manager.

Whether or not Arsenal move for David remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, Arsenal need a new striker through the door in this transfer window.
