Phil Parkinson says win, lose or draw, Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have his back.

Reynolds and McElhenney‘s decision to hire the 57-year-old in 2021 has proved to be a very astute one with Parkinson guiding the Red Dragons to back-to-back promotions to reach League One.

Wrexham are currently in their first season in their third tier since 2005 and chasing another historic promotion.

Following Saturday’s win over Stockport, Parkinson’s side sit second in the table with just eight matches remaining.

However, there have been setbacks during the current campaign, including a recent defeat to Reading.

Parkinson has now revealed Reynolds and McElhenney’s classy response to the loss.

Asked what the owners have been like, he told The Final Word: “Yeah they’ve been great.

“Rob and Ryan have been brilliant, we got beat at Reading last week, you get those along the way and straight away next day both of them messaged me, 'anything you need us to do, any help we can give you'. Which is great.

“You know when you lose as a manager you know it’s like it doesn’t matter where you are in the league.”

Parkinson continued: “I said to Rob and Ryan I think just a nice little video message for the boys before the Wycombe game, just about 'ten games to go lads, you know you’ve done great'.

“There’s a bit of a supportive message because they’ve not been over for a short while so they did that and just little things like that help you know because it’s not all on the manager.

“It’s so when we win everyone takes the plaudits but it’s important as well when it doesn’t go as well that everyone pulls together around you and Rob and Ryan have been great at that.”

Wrexham have since won their last two matches to move into the automatic promotion places.

Third place Wycombe have played a game less, though, as the clubs enter the business end of the season.

A third consecutive promotion would see Wrexham return to the second tier for the first time since 1982.

It would also secure only their fifth ever campaign at that level.

Parkinson has overseen the club’s climb from the National League during his four-year tenure.

Across that time, he has taken charge of 200 matches in all competitions, winning 123 of those.

Wrexham will continue their promotion push away to Exeter on Saturday before travelling to Cambridge United three days later.
