With injuries mounting up in the midfield department for Chelsea, they are certainly in need of reinforcements in the middle of the park.

Enzo Maresca will be frustrated to have witnessed both Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia pick up untimely injuries.

With that being the case, Chelsea have only one natural number six at their disposal in Moises Caicedo.

While in central midfield, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who is attracting interest is the only option available at Enzo Maresca’s disposal.

Chelsea, who are sitting in fourth place in the Premier League currently would consider it imperative to qualify for the Champions League at the end of the 2024/2025 season.

Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea do not want to sign a superstar midfielder

Under the BlueCo ownership, Chelsea have made a habit of flexing their financial muscle in the transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano touched on the transfer plans at Cobham, revealing that the club are looking for astute market opportunities as they eye a new midfielder rather than signing an out-and-out superstar.

Chelsea are also assessing options for the midfield. In case, they find a good opportunity, they could consider to bring in one more midfielder in this January transfer window. I don’t think it’s going to be a superstar name.”

Fabrizio Romano revealed on his YouTube channel: “The feeling is that they want an opportunity on the market because they have Enzo Fernandez, [Romeo] Lavia, for the future, they also have Andrey Santos, who is doing fantastically for Strasbourg.”

“So, they see the future well covered but if they have one more player they can bring in January, Chelsea would consider that and keep an eye on opportunities.”

TBR Football revealed that Chelsea could sign defender Pierro Hincapie as they hope to replace the potentially outgoing Renato Veiga, as the West London side are opening up their pockets to bolster their squad.

On the midfield front, West Ham are targeting Carney Chukwuemeka, who is not in Enzo Maresca’s plans.

The Blues are admirers of one midfielder as a potential signing in particular.

Chelsea have already enquired about Man City target Douglas Luiz

Chelsea have enquired about signing Douglas Luiz, who has had a torrid time at Juventus since joining them from Aston Villa in the summer.

Enzo Maresca’s side would like to sign the Brazilian international on loan.

But the report states that Juventus’ priority is to conduct an outright sale.

Interestingly, Manchester City would like to re-sign Luiz on a loan deal this January as well.

Before the winter transfer window closes, Chelsea face City and West Ham.

It would be ideal if they could wrap up the signing of a midfielder by then.

With Newcastle United and Manchester City also in the hunt for top four, Chelsea would not like to scupper their chances of Champions League football by failing to bring in a much-needed fresh face in the middle of the park.

Only time will tell how much ambition they show in the market now.
