'This is just part of our legacy': Manchester City defender Ruben Dias sends motivational message after Liverpool defeat

A 2-0 defeat to Liverpool means Manchester City now have four losses in their last four Premier League games, and are winless in seven in all competitions.

Mohamed Salah was the standout performer in the game, converting a penalty in the 78th minute to add on to Cody Gakpo’s first half goal.

It was a concerning performance for Pep Guardiola’s side, and Man City could earn themselves an unwanted Premier League record with their run of four consecutve defeats being the second-worst streak a reigning PL champion has been on – only bested by Leicester City’s 2016/17 streak of five.

Ruben Dias is confident Manchester City can turn things around

In an interview with Reuters, Manchester City defender Ruben Dias said that the loss to rivals Liverpool was “a difficult moment”, but that he “did see a lot of character and the fans behind us” – affirming that fan support is “the only way we are going to [get] through it.”

Despite the poor run of form, Dias does not want fans to forget the good side of things. “This is just part of our legacy. We have won so much and still we are where we are and this happens,” the 30-year-old stated.

Dias continued, “We have been able to be versatile, adapt and keep on moving forward and thinking one game at a time… That is what we need to get back to.”

City boss Pep Guardiola admitted to Sky Sports that the onus of their issues were on him. “No blaming, no running from responsibilities. I want it. Here as a club, you have to win. If you don’t win, you are in trouble,” the Spaniard lamented.

When did Manchester City’s winless streak start?

Last month’s EFL Cup fourth round defeat to Tottenham Hotspur might have seemed inconspicuous at the time, but it was anything but.

Sunday’s defeat to Liverpool means that out of their last ten games played in all competitions, City have won three, drawn one, and lost six.
