Arsenal look set to move on from Thomas Partey as there has been “no significant progress” on a new contract, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners midfielder’s deal expires next summer, but despite playing a majority of matches this season a new contract is still not on the table, and he can discuss a pre-contract elsewhere next month.

This appears to indicate that the Ghanaian may see his five-year contract end at the Emirates in 2025, as the North London club are “in the market” for a new midfielder, adding weight to that speculation.

There is reportedly "no urgency" on resolving Partey’s situation, suggesting this could well mean Mikel Arteta is looking long-term without the £45milllion man [BBC Sport] in it.

Mikel Arteta needs some young blood in Arsenal midfield

Football Insider opinion

It's no exaggeration to say Arsenal have an ageing midfield. Partey is 31, Jorginho turns 32 next week, and new signing Mikel Merino is 28.

This development follows a Football Insider report from September revealing that Partey and Jorginho will likely be replaced if no new contracts are signed soon.

Partey, one of the club's highest earners with a weekly wage of around £200,000 [Daily Mail], has struggled with injuries throughout his career in North London.

However, it would be surprising if he is left without an offer on the table. He has been one of Arteta's key players this season, staying injury-free and racking up over 1,700 minutes. In contrast, he managed just 883 minutes last season [Transfermarkt].

Arsenal are also grappling with an injury crisis that has dented their title ambitions. The risk of recurring injuries throughout the season could push the club to remain active in the January transfer window.

Declan Rice, the £105m midfield partner [BBCSport], has also dealt with injury struggles this season, affecting his performances. However, after winning Player of the Match against Manchester United on December 4, fans will hope he is back to his best.

This could mean a midfield trio of Rice, Martin Odegaard, and Merino, where Partey's absence would be less impactful.

In other news, Arsenal bringing in Marcus Rashford would be a “hell of a signing”.
