Tierney and Jota back at Celtic? Nice in theory, but the reality is that this is unlikely

Since Felipe Jota has been told he can leave Stade Rennes after just six months, he has immediately been linked with Celtic again.
While the idea of this is nice, it is in reality, lazy journalism.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Jota back at Celtic, and I have no doubt that he’d tear it up again on the wing for us.
But just because journos are creating stories about him returning, this doesn’t mean there’s any substance to them whatsoever.
If you were also to take off your green tinted specs and look at Jota’s career trajectory since leaving us, then it would really be a cause for concern.
Don’t you think?
Now, I suppose you could look at it two ways, firstly, maybe he’d thrive back at Celtic Park, because it’s sort of a spiritual home to him?
Secondly, his lack of ability to make it work in both Saudi Arabia and France is worrying, and if he was to return, would he be the same player who left Celtic Park in 2023?
All legitimate points.
But ultimately, none that prove he has any interest in coming back to Celtic Park.
And if you read anything that is written in the media and on some websites, anything to do with Jota is just pure speculation.
Which in turn means it’s unlikely we’ll see him return to Celtic Park in this window, with Olympiacos seemingly his most likely destination at this point.
Unless, of course, we start to see Steven McGowan reporting it, that is.
Nod to Joe and James on that one, and last night’s podcast!
As for Kieran Tierney, I’ve also given my opinion on this in our podcast.
My personal view was that it’s not going to happen.
At least not in this window anyway.
I might be wrong, but the SMSM are acting like they’re in the know with this one.
Mark Pirie, of the Record states that he is “inching closer” to making a return to Celtic.
With Michael Stewart reckoning that Brendan Rodgers is “excited” about the arrival.
Considering the title this is contained within, I’d say this is purely speculative, rather than factual.
There’s no doubt the majority of fans would love to see Kieran Tierney back at the club.
I include myself in that category, despite the reservations I might have.
In an ideal world, I’d love to see a fit and injury free Kieran Tierney back at Celtic.
I just don’t know if that’s a possibility considering his recent injury history at Arsenal.
The idea of Tierney and Jota playing together for Celtic would be a dream come true.
But I fear that’s all it might remain to be.
A dream.
Should we dare to dream?
I guess it’s what we do as Celtic fans.
But I don’t see this happening.
