Tim Sherwood has revealed his Premier League top-four prediction as Liverpool battle Arsenal for the title and a host of teams eye Champions League spots.

Liverpool are in the driving seat in the title race, moving six points clear of nearest rival Arsenal with 17 games to play.

Many suspected Liverpool would take a while to gel under new boss Arne Slot following the emotional departure of Jurgen Klopp, but the Reds have only lost once in the league to emerge as the clear favourites for the title.

Few expected Manchester City to drop off as they have but Arsenal appeared best-placed to take advantage of any City demise, having finished second for two years in a row.

Mikel Arteta’s side are blowing hot and cold, however, drawing eight of their 22 games to leave themselves with work to do as they attempt to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004.

For a while Nottingham Forest, who battled relegation last season, were above Arsenal having amassed a hugely impressive 44 points from their 22 games.

Champions League football does not look beyond Forest, and the same can be said for Chelsea who have enjoyed a largely promising season under Enzo Maresca to emerge as top-four contenders.

Man City, Newcastle United, Bournemouth and Aston Villa are all one win away from the Champions League spots with just less than half the season remaining.

Sherwood expects Liverpool to be the team to end Manchester City’s recent dominance in the English top-flight and predicted how the rest of the top-four places will finish.

‘I think at this stage you would be mad to say Liverpool won't win the Premier League,’ Sherwood told Metro via Discasino.

Current Premier League table:

  1. Liverpool
  2. Arsenal
  3. Nottingham Forest
  4. Chelsea
  5. Manchester City
  6. Newcastle United

Tim Sherwood’s top-four prediction:

  1. Liverpool
  2. Arsenal
  3. Manchester City
  4. Chelsea

‘They've got the experience across the team and they've got world-class players in every position. Liverpool are uncatchable for me.

‘It's a dogfight for the rest of the positions but I think Arsenal will find a rhythm and be tough to catch for some of the other teams that are looking at that top-four.

‘They had that sticky patch – exiting the FA Cup and they have a mountain to climb in the League Cup – and I don’t think they can win the league. But it’s not a write-off season for Arsenal.

‘My other two are Man City and Chelsea. I think City will put a run together. I wouldn't say they're back to what we knew they were but once they get a few results, we know the calibre of players they have and we know how well they finish seasons.

‘They can't win the league but I think they'll finish well and push Arsenal for second. I even think they're capable of winning the Champions League.

‘Newcastle are having such a good run and Nottingham Forest have done so well but I think Chelsea might just pip it [the final top-four spot].

‘I think Forest will just drop out. Nuno [Espirito Santo] has done an amazing job and they're such a well-drilled and organised team with a great counter-attack.

‘But I think Chelsea will get it. Enzo Maresca has turned them around despite this little blip.

‘They weren't ready to challenge for the title but they're certainly making strides forward and I think they will get fourth, just.’

Alan Shearer believes last weekend was a pivotal moment in the title race as Liverpool scored two injury-time goals to beat Brentford before Arsenal dropped points at home to Aston Villa.

Speaking after his Brentford team were downed by the Premier League leaders, Thomas Frank said: ‘I think overall a good performance against a fantastically good team that I think is the best team in the Premier League.

‘Of course, they are number one, so I don’t think that’s a surprise to anyone, but probably also the best team in the world.

‘We just played against City and Arsenal and now Liverpool in short succession, I think they are a level above the two others right now, more complete in all phases on the game, yeah… very good, exceptionally good.’
