'Time to call it a day': Troy Deeney suggests £265k-a-week Arsenal player should now consider his future

Arsenal are currently doing well in all three competitions they’ve been taking part in this season.
The Gunners remain in the Premier League title picture, are likely to proceed to the Champions League knockouts, and are in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
While most of Arsenal’s first-teamers have been doing well for their side this season, some of their players have been receiving criticism.
Troy Deeney has now criticised Gabriel Jesus and said the Gunners forward has done – or more precisely, said – something at the club that he disagrees with.
Troy Deeney says Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus should not have said goals are not his ‘strong point’
Deeney, speaking on talkSPORT, said Jesus’ displays have been “stinky” for a while now and described him as a “good footballer who doesn’t like scoring goals”.
The former Watford striker also touched upon Jesus’ comments from 2023 in which he admitted that goals are not his “strong point”.
Deeney said: “Gabi’s been stinky, he’s been stinky for a little while. He’s a good footballer that doesn’t like scoring goals.”
Addressing Jesus’ own views about his struggles in front of goal, Deeney stated: “Personally, when you start telling people that, it’s time to call it a day.
“I’m not sure why he thought that was clever.”
What other pundits have been saying about Jesus
Jesus has only scored one Premier League goal in 2024 and only has one goal in all competitions this season, against Preston in the Carabao Cup this term.
His lack of goals this term has led to him only starting twice in the league, with Kai Havertz preferred to lead the Arsenal line.
Other pundits have taken a more sympathetic approach, with Micah Richards admitting he feels sorry for Jesus and Rio Ferdinand saying Jesus would be a nightmare to play against.
Richards replied: "You feel so sorry for him, but the work that he puts in for the team was brilliant and has been brilliant.
"I know he started so well. It's been frustrating. He got the injury, he came back from the injury.
“He's been a shadow of the player, but a lot of the good work with Arsenal comes from his hard work, and he got his assist. So, I was happy for him."
Meanwhile, Ferdinand said: "I've actually said this to Jesus. You play within the box, you're a nightmare. I speak to so many centre-backs who are pundits now, and they go, I wouldn't want to play against Jesus.
"Hard work. He's a problem, like he does a lot, he works hard all the time.
"I think he takes, he spends too many, too much energy working outside of where you earn your crust. Ask somebody the problem solved. And that is normally when he comes on the pitch, is to get a goal."
