Rabbi Matondo received reactions from former Rangers stars on social media after completing his “dream” while away from Ibrox during the international break.
The winger helped Craig Bellamy’s Wales side to an important 3-1 win over Kazakhstan on Saturday 22 March, adding the final cherry to the cake after goals from Dan James and Ben Davies.
The visitors did show a sign of a comeback at the Cardiff City Stadium, with Keith Hackett blaming Connor Roberts for Wales giving away a penalty, one which Askhat Tagybergen slotted away in the first half.
It was the 24-year-old’s first goal for Wales in 13 caps, and with the player currently on loan with Hannover he likely felt he had something to prove to those back at Ibrox.
Bellamy would have been thrilled as well, with his side getting off to the absolute best start to World Cup 2026 qualification ahead of the tournament across America, Canada and Mexico.

Taking to Instagram [23 March], Matondo wrote: “What dreams are made of… Over the moon with my first goal for Wales, in my home city as well makes it even better. About time too.
“Strong team performance to go with it, onto the next!” with Rangers stars Cyriel Dessers, Nico Raskin, Jack Butland and James Tavernier all liking the post, so too did Blackburn’s Todd Cantwell and Derby’s Kemar Roofe.
Ibrox figures have difficult decision to make over Wales goalscorer
Supporters were begging for the club to finally sell Matondo during the winter transfer window, but with the player being loaned out instead, he has been out of sight, out of mind in Germany.
The 24-year-old could still return to Ibrox at the end of the season, with many uncertain of potential clauses in his loan deal, but it might not even be Barry Ferguson making the decisions this summer.

Ferguson should be pushing to become the permanent Rangers boss, having led the Gers to the Europa League quarter-final and beating Celtic in their own backyard, but the list will be extensive.
Rafa Benitez, Steven Gerrard, Derek McInnes and Russell Martin have all been included in the conversation but there could be a Rangers fallout on the cards should Ferguson be snubbed.
Whatever happens, there is excitement building at Ibrox, mainly because of 49ers Enterprises’ planned takeover, but there will be some important decisions to make at the end of the season.
