Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has reacted to a message from Fulham ace Alex Iwobi on social media after the Whites were thumped by Crystal Palace.

The Whites have enjoyed a wonderful season so far, sitting eighth in the Premier League table, whilst also making it to the FA Cup quarter-finals.

However, goals from Tottenham target Eberechi Eze, Ismaila Sarr and Eddie Nketiah brought their hopes of a first ever major trophy crashing down, as Fulham exited the FA Cup with a whimper.

Whilst Iwobi has enjoyed arguably the best season of his career, the Nigerian international was woeful when his side needed him most.

The under-performance against the Eagles has also sparked concerns it could lead to Marco Silva leaving to take over at Tottenham in the summer.

Alex Iwobi thanks Fulham fans after Crystal Palace defeat

Following the drubbing, Iwobi posted a series of images from the match to Instagram, captioned: “Gutted… Appreciate the support”.

The post was then liked by Iwobi’s former Fulham teammate and current Chelsea defender, Adarabioyo.

Whilst the result against the Eagles will be a major disappointment, Silva will be keen to get his side back on track for a push for European football, starting with their game against Arsenal on Tuesday (1 April).

Crystal Palace loss exposes gaps in Fulham’s recruitment

Football Insider Verdict

Silva has, at times, been a miracle worker when it comes to eking performances out of the Cottagers.

Taking players like Raul Jimenez, Timothy Castagne and Willian and turning them back into genuine Premier League starters, having been discarded by their teams deserves praise.

Silva has done this whilst losing Aleksandar Mitrovic, Joao Palhinha and Adarabioyo in the last two years, without much being spent to replace the stars.

As a consequence of this recruitment strategy though, there are limitations on the side’s potential for success, as shown against Palace.

Fulham dominated the ball throughout the match and looked dangerous in the early stages, but a lack of quality in chance creation gave the Eagles an easy time when it came to defending the Whites’ attacks.

In years gone by, the Cottagers would have been able to rely on Mitrovic finding a goal from nothing, creating space for his teammates by demanding respect from defenders, but his replacement’s simply do not do that, and if Fulham continue to forego finding a truly top-class striker, they will consistently fail to win in the matches that matter most.
