Tottenham face a decision on the future of loan forward Mathys Tel as he prepares to return to Bayern Munich at the end of this season.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (14 April) that Spurs will find it hard to convince Tel to remain at the club permanently without European football.

The Lilywhites are open to keeping him but want to negotiate his £45million buy clause down if they are to strike a permanent deal.

Tel is set to be recalled by Bayern when the English season ends and will become a part of their squad for the Club World Cup this summer.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has given his verdict on Spurs sealing a permanent move with Ange Postecoglou‘s days at the club “very much numbered”.

Tel loan was ‘clever move’ – but has no Tottenham future

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he believes Tel will not be playing for Tottenham in the 2025-26 campaign.

The France Under-21 international has scored in his last two Premier League outings and has made 11 appearances for Spurs.

Wyness suggested Tel’s reputation may have been tainted by Postecoglou’s poor record as manager in recent months.

He told Football Insider's Inside Track podcast: "Postecoglou's days are very much numbered, and Tel has been tarred with that brush now.

"It's going to be a decision for whoever comes in.

"I think this could come down to the last minute for that decision to be made. He hasn't exactly covered himself in glory on the pitch, from what I've seen.

"It's one of those – he may well go back to Bayern Munich.

"It was a clever move to do a loan deal instead of an emergency transfer, as we've seen so many clubs make mistakes before.

"I personally think he will not end up in the Spurs shirt next season."

Tottenham manager appointment timeline revealed

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (15 April) that Tottenham are keen to make a manager appointment as soon as possible if they decide to ditch.

Tottenham chiefs are already evaluating potential successors – with Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola and Fulham's Marco Silva top candidates as things stand.

Both men are also attracting interest elsewhere in the Premier League and across Europe, and Tottenham are keen to make a quick appointment to avoid being gazumped.
