Daniel Levy and Tottenham’s recruitment team should still sign Zepiqueno Redmond despite the speculation over Ange Postecoglou’s future.
Tottenham‘s dismal season is almost at an end, with their Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt – and possibly the title beyond – being Spurs’ only chance left to salvage a domestic campaign to forget.
Ange Postecoglou looks bound for the sack at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium regardless of their potential European success, but this shouldn’t stop Daniel Levy from making additions to the squad.
Football Insider revealed on 22 April that Tottenham and Bournemouth are both keen on Feyenoord frontman Redmond, and Paul Robinson has backed his former employers to complete the transfer.
The ex-Spurs and England goalkeeper told Football Insider that although Postecoglou’s uncertain future has hamstrung efforts to prepare for the summer transfer window, Tottenham should still sign Redmond regardless of who is in the dugout next season.
Tottenham to bypass Posteocglou question in Redmond transfer
Football Insider have reported that Tottenham are “well-placed” to beat Bournemouth to Redmond’s signature this summer, with the 18-year-old striker’s contract set to expire at the end of the season.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Robinson urged Spurs not to waste any time in their pursuit of the Dutchman, and argued that Daniel Levy and other decision-makers in North London can easily agree a deal without Postecoglou’s approval.
"That’s the type of recruitment that you can do without a manager. There’s a lot of upheaval at Tottenham – Redmond’s the type of player that you sign without a manager”, he told Football Insider.
“That’s the board’s decision, that’s the director of football decision, the recruitment team – you’ve identified him; 18 years old, [he’s] come through the academy, a top quality player.
“If you’re hat’s in the ring for that one, you’ve got a good quality player, you don’t need the manager’s approval to sign a player like that – that one can be done without a manager."
Daniel Levy lays groundwork for new Tottenham manager
Redmond’s arrivals through the doors in North London could precede the arrival of Tottenham’s new manager, with Levy and the board still to complete their assessment of Postecoglou’s long-term future.
With a number of big-name Premier League bosses linked like Thomas Frank, Marco Silva and Andoni Iraola, clubs have already taken taking steps to ward off expected interest from Tottenham this summer.
Football Insider revealed that Levy plans to trigger Frank’s release clause at Brentford is Postecoglou is shown the door, and this could result in the rare occurence of a manager being bought as one of their strikers comes in for free.
