Transfer Expert: Arsenal 'closely watching' Crystal Palace star

Arsenal scouts have been “closely watching” Tyrick Mitchell as they weigh up a move to bring the Crystal Palace star to the Emirates.
This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Gunners are keen to strengthen at left-back.
Despite reports claiming the 25-year-old’s contract was set to expire in the summer, Crystal Palace sources have confirmed to Football Insider that his deal actually runs until 2027.
However, Arsenal’s interest was not based solely on his supposed availability, and he remains under consideration in the coming transfer windows.
Brown explained that Mikel Arteta values Mitchell’s defensive qualities, but questions linger about his ability in possession of the ball.
Kieran Tierney looks set to leave the Emirates this month, while questions linger around the future of Oleksandr Zinchenko, forcing the Gunners to consider their options.
Arsenal plot move to sign Tyrick Mitchell from Crystal Palace
Myles Lewis-Skelly has been selected to play at left-back in recent weeks, filling in with Jurrien Timber forced to right-back to cover for Ben White’s absence.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after spending over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, explained that Mitchell is one of a number of options Arsenal have assessed for the position.
“I’m told he’s one they’ve been looking at,” he told Football Insider.
“They’ve had scouts watching him closely, so they’ll be aware of his qualities and what he brings to the table.
“He’s done a good job at Palace, but whether he’s the type of player who would be a regular at Arsenal remains to be seen.
“Mikel Arteta is a fan of full-backs with defensive qualities, and that’s why Mitchell is on their radar.
“But he’s not the only one they’ve had a look at because it is a position they want to strengthen.
“They’ve had a few injury issues there and players like Tierney and Zinchenko might be leaving, which means they’ll be short of options.
“I think they have other priorities, too, but a new left-back is one to watch and Mitchell is definitely an option they’ve considered.”
In other news, Ethan Nwaneri ‘to agree new deal within weeks’.
