Man City star Kevin de Bruyne is attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia amid uncertainty over his future at the Etihad.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that clubs are eyeing “big-money” offers to secure his signature.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 30 December that the 33-year-old is increasingly likely to leave City at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

De Bruyne’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, with no talks over a renewal planned as things stand.

As a result, he is able to sign a pre-contract agreement from this month to make the move abroad come the expiry of his deal.

Football Insider first revealed interest from Saudi Pro League clubs in June 2024, with their desire to make the City man their latest superstar signing long-standing.

Brown explained that the club are growing ever-more likely to let him leave as a result of concerns about his fitness, while the player will also be aware of his struggles.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience working with players and agents at the top level after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that he now expects De Bruyne to make the move come the summer.

I’m not surprised to hear Man City are willing to let him leave,” he told Football Insider.

“They would like him to play more of a bit-part role on reduced minutes, but they also have concerns about his fitness and availability.

“They could be open to seeing him leave as a result of that.

“And I know there are clubs in Saudi Arabia who have been keeping an eye on his situation, so they could make him a big-money offer to tempt him to make the move.

“Then it’ll be up to him, because I think he’d be keen to move to a less physically-demanding league.

“So he could collect a hefty wage packet and slowly call an end to his career at the elite level. If he feels now is the time to do that, I’d expect him to leave.”
