'Trevoh Chalobah complicates Marc Guehi transfer to Chelsea from Crystal Palace'
Marc Guehi’s transfer to Chelsea is being complicated by the cancellation of Trevoh Chalobah’s loan, according to talkSPORT.
The Blues had been keen to re-sign their former player from Crystal Palace, due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of Axel Disasi, and injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.
However, the West London club’s decision to recall Chalobah has made a deal unlikely. Palace do not plan on signing another defender in January and are therefore unwilling to let Guehi leave.
Tosin Adarabioyo, who was signed for free in the summer after his contract expired with Fulham is also attracting interest from Brighton, but it is unclear if the London side would be willing to let him go.
Chelsea survived a points deduction after passing the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR), and selling Adarabioyo would be a major benefit to the club from a financial standpoint.
Chelsea title race falters under Enzo Maresca as defence slips
Football Insider Verdict
Chelsea have already made a number of moves in their goalkeeping department this January.
Now, the defence looks set for an overhaul, with Ben Chilwell, Renato Veiga and the aforementioned Adarabioyo, Disasi and Badiashile all being linked with a Blues exit.
The current level of uncertainty seems to have had an affect on Chelsea’s defensive solidity, with the Blues currently on a five game winless run in the League.
The West London side had been in a title-race with Liverpool, but poor results after Christmas seem to relegated them to competing for Champions League spots.
Maresca has been working with a bloated squad this season, often choosing to use a “B” team in the UEFA Conference League, and will want to have a clearer picture on the players he can rely on this season.
Chalobah was only recalled from his loan as cover for potentially departing defenders, and news that this decision has hampered their pursuit of Guehi will be a massive frustration for Maresca.
Guehi has been a regular in the England national team set-up and is viewed by many to be one of the top defenders currently in the Premier League.
In other news, Tyrique George has reacted to the exit of a Chelsea wonderkid.
