'Tried to bid': £8m Liverpool player says he actually almost signed for Everton

Everton and Liverpool are two of English football's biggest rivals.
The Merseyside Derby is one of football's great rivalries, and, in recent times, Liverpool have been the dominant force on Merseyside.
Indeed, the Reds are flying high at the top of the Premier League, while Everton are battling relegation on what appears to be a yearly basis.

Liverpool are also able to throw their weight around in the transfer market.
Liverpool have spent substantially more than Everton on their squad, and, on a few occasions, they've actually beaten their close rivals to signings.
Everton were targeting Cody Gakpo before his move to Liverpool, while Luis Diaz was an Everton target the summer before he joined the Reds too.
Speaking on Premier League Stories, Andy Robertson has been discussing his career to date, and he has revealed that Evertton actually tried to sign him before he made his move to Hull City.
Everton tried to sign Andy Robertson
Robertson spoke about his initial move away from Dundee United and Everton's interest.
The left-back says that the Toffees did try to sign him and loan him back to Dundee United, but, in the end, a deal couldn't be agreed.
"No yeah, obviously in the January I had a bit of interest. Everton tried. Everton tried to bid for me and loan me back to Dundee United. I knew there was Premier League interest, but yeah, I just didn't think about it, I just lived in the moment and didn't really think too far ahead," Robertson said.
Andy Robertson compared to Leighton Baines
It was around this time that Everton had one of the best left-backs in the Premier League in the shape of Leighton Baines.
Indeed, the England star was brilliant for Everton around this time as he chipped in with tons of goals and assists down that flank.
However, Robertson would eventually surpass Baines as a player as he would break the Premier League assist record for a defender and become a Premier League and Champions League winner.
However, Baines would always be a much more prolific goalscorer than Robertson.

Games | 289 | 420 |
Goals | 11 | 52 |
Assists | 59 | 54 |
Trophies won | 5 | 0 |
The £8m man has become a Premier League great, and it's fair to say that Everton missed out on a star here.
Of course, Everton's loss was Liverpool's gain as the Reds landed the full-back from Hull in 2017 and he's since become a bona fide Liverpool legend and a true leader within this squad.
Robertson has been criticised this season, and his time at the top-level may be coming to an end, but his legacy at Anfield is incredible.
